The operating principle on which it is based is simple: the pieces to be welded are connected to the current generator in such a way that to close the electrical circuit and cause the photovoltaic arc, just bring the torch with the wire close to the pieces. The high temperature generated by the passage of current, therefore, instantly melts the metals creating a weld pool.

During the process, gas is also used, which can be inert or active depending on the type of metal to be welded. Its main purpose is to act as a “jacket”, to protect the weld pool by isolating it from the air. This step is used to prevent the surface layer of the weld pool, still incandescent, from coming into contact with the oxygen contained in the air, oxidizing and irreparably damaging the weld.

How the gas-free wire welder works

The gas-free wire welder works according to the same principle as the gas one, with the only difference that instead of normal wire it uses cored wire. This particular type of wire, in fact, has a core of a metal different from that of the coating, which serves to generate the filler material for welding.
